<p>The tug <title render="italic">Maryland</title> was a ship of the Norfolk, Baltimore and Carolina Line and was engaged in towing barges in interstate commerce.  It was built in 1938, and was known as the <title render="italic">LT-801</title>, <title render="italic">Stephen F. Austin</title> and <title render="italic">T. Thomas D. Sollom</title> before being renamed <title render="italic">Maryland</title> in the mid-1950s.</p>
